Until about 1968 Sharm El-Sheikh (also known as the City of Peace) was nothing more than a quiet fishing community, but since then it has become one of the best known and most visited Egypt holiday destinations and beach resorts, boasting some of the most spectacular diving in the world.
On the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, it is a genuine “year round” resort. Average winter temperatures range from 15° - 35°C and 20°- 45°C during summer while the temperature of the Red Sea only varies between 21° - 28°C all year. Sharm El-Sheikh features some of the world’s most amazing underwater scenery with crystal clear water, rare and beautiful reefs and an incredible variety of exotic fish. Much of this can be seen simply by snorkelling off the coast, but Sharm El-Sheikh is known world-wide as the top destination for the best scuba diving holidays in Egypt.
Naama Beach, located just north of Sharm, is a resort in its own right offering all you would want from a holiday in Egypt while the nearby Shark’s Bay is also a growing resort location. For those who love to shop, Sharm El-Sheikh provides ample opportunities to indulge in retail therapy with foreign and local products, including jewellery, leather goods, clothing, pottery and books.
