Diving in Madinat Makadi (Hurghada)
There are many wonderful reefs and wrecks all over the Red Sea which means no matter where you decide to go diving, you won’t be disappointed. Madinat Makadi/ Hurghada is suitable for all levels of ability or experience and is a genuine all year round diving destination.  Makadi Bay itself features a spectacular house reef and the resort is not too far from the diving Mecca of Hurghada (just 30 kms from Hurghada airport) so some of the best dive sites in Hurghada are equally accessible from Madinat Makadi.  The only difference lies in the nature of the accommodation and the travel time to reach some of the sites.   Most hotels in the Madinat Makadi resort have diving schools in-house or linked to the properties.  Some may even offer discounts exclusively for hotel guests.  Top dives include Small Giftun Island and Erg Somaya while star wrecks include the El Minya, the Colona IV and the Excalibur

Madinat Makadi/ Hurghada Dive Sites
Erg Somaya: situated on the east side of Giftun Soraya with the tower of the Giftun police station on the south.  The east side of the reef slopes steeply down to depths between 15 -24 meters to a sandy seabed than drops off to over 50 meters. Two pinnacles are situated on the ledge, one at 10 meters where a mooring buoy is attached and one around 18 meters. Another pyramid shaped pinnacle lies to the north between 12 - 20 meters.
Small Giftun: a magnificent wall, where you can 'fly over' stretches of large fan corals and if you look out into the blue it's not uncommon to see large tunas.  The dive leads to a sandy plateau dotted with numerous coral formations and it’s common to see turtles, moray eels, crocodilefish and spotted stingrays.   Often done as a drift dive but can also be done as a normal dive where the boat is moored up.

 Shab El Erg: horseshoe shaped reef offering many dive sites on all sides. The north point can be home to Mantas in season. The lagoon is dotted with ergs and is renowned for sightings of the resident dolphins.
Umm Gammar: offshore Island surrounded by good diving on all sides, especially the south end which is ideal for novices. The east and west side have awesome drift dives and the northern tip or "halg" has a magnificent coral garden but is only accessible in very good weather.
Gota Abu Ramada: commonly known as 'the Aquarium' due to its wealth of marine life. There is an abundance of hard and soft coral and schools of butterfly fish, banner fish, snappers and goatfish are found swimming around the mountains of coral gardens. Diving at Gota feels like you are swimming in a huge natural fish tank!

Wrecks:  El Minya was an Egyptian minesweeper sunk by Israeli fighters.  The wreck is only 70m long so you can take your time to explore.  The Excalibur (or Suzanna) and the Colona IV were live-aboard vessels that both sank.  The Excalibur is a relatively young wreck but soft coral coverage has already begun.  The Colona IV lies in about 70 metres of water and is perfect for a nitrox dive.
 

Madinat Makadi Beaches & Water Sports

Most Madinat Makadi hotels have their own private beaches exclusively available to hotel guests.  Long stretches of natural sand beaches and a year-round dry and temperate climate make this area an ideal destination for sun seekers and water sports enthusiasts.  The water of Makadi Bay  are clear and calm for most of the year and are popular for watersports such as scuba-diving and snorkelling, windsurfing, sailing and deep-sea fishing.

These lakes are connected by two cascades, which are considered as hazards awaiting any stray shots. Five of the 18 holes overlook the Red Sea and three offer a great view of the lakes.  In the extended clubhouse complex, players can enjoy a coffee break or sip on a cool refreshing drink  followed by a dip in the pool which is only a couple of steps away. Meals can be taken in the a la carte restaurant which offers breathtaking views of the golf course and the beach.
